Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about registering bikes, printing QR codes, and privacy.

Does someone need an app or account to scan my bike?

No. Any smartphone camera (iOS or Android) opens the bike's public identification profile directly in their web browser with no app download, account signup, or login required.

Can someone see my home address or phone number when they scan?

No. By default, your email address, phone number, exact residential street address, purchase prices, and uploaded ownership documents are strictly hidden from public scan pages. Scanners can message you via a private contact form that alerts you through your account.

What happens if my physical sticker gets damaged or copied?

You can use the "Replace QR" button in your dashboard to immediately generate a fresh cryptographic token. The old QR token is permanently revoked and will display a neutral inactive notice to anyone scanning it.

How do I test QR codes on my phone in a local development (XAMPP) environment?

A QR code containing "localhost" will not resolve from a phone camera because "localhost" on your phone refers to the phone itself. To test locally from your phone, ensure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, find your computer's local LAN IP (e.g. 192.168.1.50 via ipconfig), update APP_URL=http://192.168.1.50:8000 in your .env, and scan again. In production, the configured public HTTPS domain is used automatically.

How do I transfer ownership if I sell my bike?

Click "Transfer Ownership" on the bike details page and enter the buyer's email address. The buyer receives a secure single-use invitation. When they accept, digital custody transfers atomically in the database while the physical QR sticker remains functional and attached to the bike.
